Diaspora Desk
The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has put in place a Diaspora Desk within the Capital Flows Administration, Accounting and Management Division that has the responsibility of facilitating investments into the country from the Zimbabweans in the Diaspora. This facilitation role is done through provision of relevant investment information to the Diaspora community, provision of investment opportunities available in the country, processing of investment proposals, answering queries as well as taking suggestions from the Diaspora community.
In addition, the Reserve Bank established the Diaspora Desk as a strategic platform to facilitate and promote the smooth flow of Diaspora remittances into the country. This initiative underscores the Reserve Bank’s recognition of the critical role played by Citizens abroad in supporting the national economy through financial inflows, investments, and development support. The Diaspora Desk serves as a one-stop interface for engaging with the Diaspora community, providing up-to-date information, guidance, and policy support relating to remittance transactions, market access, and financial services.
Through the Diaspora Desk, the Central Bank offers structured engagement with individuals and businesses in the Diaspora, ensuring that their remittances are channeled securely, efficiently and through formal systems. The Diaspora Desk works closely with Licensed Money Transfer Operators, banking institutions, and International Partners in safeguarding the integrity of financial remittance transactions. It also supports efforts to enhance transparency, reduce transaction costs, and promote the use of digital financial services to improve accessibility.
The Diaspora Desk further coordinates inquiries and helps on matters such as registration of remittance partners, licensing requirements and market entry procedures for service providers. It is also responsible for monitoring trends, addressing emerging challenges, and recommending policy enhancements aimed at optimizing the Diaspora remittance ecosystem.
The Reserve Bank remains committed to creating an enabling environment where the Diaspora community feels valued, empowered, and encouraged to contribute meaningfully to national development through sustainable financial flows.
